Lets Bake Soda Bread!

For bread enthusiasts, i started my day making Soda Bread. A no yeast bread, It’s dense, yet soft and has the most incredible crusty exterior and can be made under a short period of time.

SODA BREAD RECIPES;
450g/ 1 Ib plain flour, plus extra for dusting
1 tsp salt
1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
400ml /14 fl oz buttermilk

DIRECTIONS;

  1. Preheat the oven to 220C/ 425F/ gas mark 7
  2. Sift the flour, salt and bicarbonate of soda into a mixing bowl. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in most of the buttermilk.
  3. Mix well together using your hands. The dough should be very soft but not too wet. If necessary, add the remaining buttermilk.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead it lightly, shape into a 20cm/8 inch round.
  5. Place the bread on the prepared baking sheet, cut across in the top and bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes. Test that the loaf is cooked by tapping on the base with your knuckles. It should sound hollow.
